Senator Buba Donates ₦6.5m, Essential Relief Supplies to Bauchi Flood Victims
The lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate for Bauchi State, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has donated ₦6.5 million in cash alongside essential relief materials to victims of the recent devastating flood in Bara community, Kirfi Local Government Area.
The natural disaster, triggered by a severe downpour and violent rainstorms on Wednesday, June 10, claimed the lives of two residents—identified as a grandmother, Aishatu Sagir, and her granddaughter, Rahama Sagir—while destroying over 360 houses and displacing hundreds of families.
Senator Buba announced the intervention package during a sympathy visit to the affected settlement, where he met with displaced residents at the palace of the District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bara. To ensure immediate assistance, the lawmaker allocated ₦5 million directly to the affected households, ₦500,000 to the palace administrative structures, ₦500,000 to youth groups, ₦500,000 to women’s associations, and an additional ₦500,000 specifically for the immediate family of the deceased victims.
Beyond the financial aid, the senator distributed a comprehensive consignment of relief supplies to ease the hardship in the temporary camps.
The materials included 100 mattresses, 200 soft mats, 150 blankets, 25 bags of rice, and 100 bags of maize.
Deeply moved by the scale of the destruction, Buba promised to formally bring the humanitarian emergency before the floor of the Senate to secure urgent federal support, ecological funds, and comprehensive erosion control interventions for the border communities.
He called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and public-spirited individuals to join the reconstruction efforts, while the District Head, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Bara, expressed immense gratitude to the delegation for the swift and compassionate intervention.
