Oyo Is Not Chibok, Governor Makinde Declares
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has firmly stated that his state is not comparable to Borno despite the recent abduction of schoolchildren.
He made this declaration while addressing public anxiety over security, insisting his administration is handling the matter with urgency. The governor sought to reassure residents that Oyo is not Chibok and will never be.
Makinde expressed frustration with the Federal Government’s response to the abduction crisis. He criticised what he described as a lack of urgency from the central government.
The governor stressed that his administration is deploying all available resources to prevent future incidents.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with some commending his stance and others questioning the comparison. The Chibok kidnapping of 2014 remains one of Nigeria’s most infamous security incidents. Makinde’s comments appear aimed at calming fears while asserting Oyo’s security challenges are being addressed differently.
As the search for the missing children continues, Makinde has called on residents to remain vigilant. He vowed that Oyo would not become a safe haven for bandits and kidnappers. He promised his administration would not rest until the abducted children are safely returned.
His declaration that “Oyo is not Chibok and will never be” has become a rallying cry for residents. The situation underscores the broader challenges facing the country. Makinde’s stance reflects growing frustration among state governors over the Federal Government’s handling of security.
