Peter Obi Celebrates Abdulsalami at 84, Hails His Democratic Legacy

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has paid tribute to former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, in celebration of his 84th birthday, praising his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and national unity.

Obi joined political leaders, statesmen and other dignitaries at the public presentation of books documenting Abdulsalami’s life, leadership journey and contributions to Nigeria and the African continent.

In a goodwill message delivered during the event, Obi described the former military ruler as a patriotic leader whose actions at a critical moment in the nation’s history helped guide Nigeria through a peaceful transition from military rule to democratic governance.

According to him, Abdulsalami demonstrated remarkable courage, vision and commitment to the national interest by overseeing a transition process that restored civilian rule and laid the foundation for the country’s current democratic dispensation.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate noted that Abdulsalami’s leadership during a period of political uncertainty played a vital role in preserving national stability and strengthening public confidence in the democratic process.

Obi further commended the elder statesman for placing the unity and progress of the country above personal or political interests, describing his legacy as one that continues to inspire leaders across generations.

He said Abdulsalami’s contributions to peacebuilding, democratic governance and nation-building remain significant milestones in Nigeria’s political history and have earned him widespread respect both within and beyond the country.

The event formed part of activities marking the former Head of State’s 84th birthday and brought together prominent Nigerians who reflected on his leadership record and enduring impact on national development.

Speakers at the gathering highlighted Abdulsalami’s role in facilitating Nigeria’s return to democratic rule and his continued engagement in efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability and good governance across Africa.
