FRSC Reports 27% Drop in Road Crashes During 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Celebration
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced a 27% reduction in road traffic crashes across Nigeria during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration compared to the same festive period in the previous year.
This improvement highlights a notable shift in road safety outcomes during one of the country’s busiest travel seasons.
The Corps Marshal of the FRSC attributed this downward trend to the intensive public enlightenment campaigns, strategic deployment of personnel, and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations implemented leading up to the holidays. According to the agency, the increased visibility of road safety officers along major corridors effectively deterred reckless driving, speeding, and unauthorized route usage, which are traditionally the leading causes of holiday mishaps.
Statistical breakdowns from the commission indicated that not only did the total number of recorded crashes drop, but there was also a corresponding decline in the number of related fatalities and injuries. This success was further supported by a collaborative effort with various transport unions, where commercial drivers underwent rigorous psychoeducation and sensitization on the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol and fatigue.
While celebrating this milestone, the FRSC management maintained that the ultimate goal remains achieving a zero-crash reality on Nigerian roads. The agency urged motorists to sustain this positive momentum by continuously obeying traffic laws, maintaining their vehicles properly, and exercising patience, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility that extends well beyond festive periods.
