Police Nab Key Suspect in Kogi Attack, Recover 100 Stolen Cattle
The Kogi State Police Command has recorded a significant success following a deadly attack on Ayegunle Community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area. Security forces arrested a major suspect and recovered about one hundred stolen cattle.
The breakthrough has brought relief to residents still shaken by the violent assault.
The attack happened last Saturday when armed bandits stormed Ayegunle Community around 2:00 a.m. The gang, led by a notorious kingpin known as Batijo, ransacked homes and kidnapped three residents.
They later moved to the Kabba–Obajana Road, where they blocked the highway, shot at vehicles, and abducted many travellers. In total, about thirty people were taken, including both community members and passengers.
Police received a distress call at approximately 2:49 a.m. In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, quickly deployed tactical teams to the area. Joint security forces, including the Nigerian Army, DSS, vigilantes, forest guards, and the Civilian Joint Task Force, worked together.
Their coordinated pursuit led them deep into the forest after the fleeing criminals.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Ibrahim, identified as a core member of Batijo’s gang. The suspect is now helping investigators and has shared valuable information. His cooperation has helped name other gang members involved in the attack: Aliyu, Lamido, Muhadahire, and Kache. Security agencies are now working to arrest them and break up the criminal network.
Authorities also recovered about one hundred cattle that the bandits had stolen as they fled the community. CP Naziru Kankarofi reassured residents that security forces are doing everything possible to rescue all kidnapped victims and prevent future attacks. The arrest of Ibrahim and the recovery of the cattle mark important steps toward restoring peace and safety in Ayegunle Community.
