Tinubu Faces No Real Opposition Ahead of 2027, Says Fayose
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that President Bola Tinubu currently faces no serious challenger ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing disunity among opposition parties as a major setback.
Fayose made the remark during a television interview, where he argued that the opposition has failed to present a united front capable of mounting a credible challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the proliferation of political parties and the emergence of multiple presidential hopefuls have weakened the opposition’s chances, describing the situation as one driven more by “noise” than political reality. He noted that if opposition leaders had formed a strong coalition, the political landscape ahead of 2027 would have been more competitive.
However, persistent divisions, internal conflicts, and lack of consensus have, in his view, significantly reduced their chances.
Fayose also referenced the outcome of the 2023 presidential election, where opposition votes were split among key candidates, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, a development that ultimately worked in favour of Tinubu.
His comments come at a time when political activities are gradually intensifying across the country, with early alignments and coalition talks already underway among opposition figures seeking to challenge the APC in the next election cycle.
Despite growing economic and security concerns across Nigeria, Fayose maintained that the absence of a cohesive opposition gives President Tinubu a significant political advantage heading into 2027.
Political analysts say the coming months will be critical in determining whether opposition parties can overcome their differences and build a formidable alliance capable of reshaping the electoral contest.
