Makinde Urges Restraint as Security Agencies Hunt Oyo School Kidnappers

Oyo State Governor, , has appealed to families of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area to remain calm as security agencies intensify efforts to secure their release.

The governor made the appeal on Sunday during a thanksgiving service held to mark the retirement and 60th birthday celebration of Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, the state’s outgoing Head of Service, at a church event in Ibadan.

Makinde said security operatives were actively tracking those responsible for the abduction and expressed confidence that ongoing efforts would lead to the safe return of the victims.

He cautioned against staging protests over the incident, arguing that public demonstrations at this stage could inadvertently encourage the abductors by drawing greater attention to their actions.

According to the governor, criminal groups involved in kidnappings and similar attacks often seek publicity and may respond differently from law-abiding citizens, making it important for residents to avoid actions that could complicate rescue efforts.

Makinde stressed the need for unity and cooperation among residents, urging the public to support ongoing security operations rather than engage in blame games while efforts to recover the victims continue.

The governor also called for prayers, saying spiritual support remains important alongside the work being carried out by security agencies.

His comments come amid growing concern over the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that has heightened fears about insecurity in parts of the state.

Authorities have yet to provide further details on the rescue operation, but the state government maintains that every available measure is being deployed to ensure the victims return home safely.
