I Decided to Secure My Future and Play Safe’, Confesses Ashmusy on Egg Freezing Decision

Popular Nigerian content creator and social media influencer Amarachi Amusi, widely known as Ashmusy, has revealed that a series of failed romantic relationships was the defining factor behind her decision to freeze her eggs, saying the experience forced her to confront the possibility that finding the right partner could take far longer than she had anticipated.

The 30-year-old skitmaker made the disclosure in an interview where she spoke candidly about her personal journey, her views on marriage and the importance of motherhood to her long-term aspirations.

Ashmusy explained that she had been in several serious relationships which she genuinely believed would end in marriage, only for them to fall apart.

Each disappointment deepened her awareness that emotional unavailability and immaturity among men were more widespread than she had previously acknowledged, and that waiting for marriage before thinking about her fertility could be a risk she was no longer willing to take.

“I really wanted to secure my future as a mother. Motherhood is very important to me, and I want to be sure that I will become a mum in the future, no matter what happens. I arrived at that clarity after going through a few serious relationships that I genuinely believed would end in marriage, but they didn’t. I also realised that many men these days are not emotionally available or emotionally mature enough to be husbands, no matter how promising they may initially seem,” she said.

The influencer added that the heartbreaks shifted her perspective and compelled her to act rather than wait. Having come to terms with the reality that the right partner might not arrive on any particular schedule, she said she opted to take control of the one variable she could, her biology.

“That made me understand that finding the right partner might take longer than I expected. Because of that, I decided to secure my future and play safe,” she said. She further revealed that she had nearly walked into a marriage she knew was wrong, driven by desperation and the social pressure surrounding a woman’s biological clock, and that freezing her eggs had since removed that sense of urgency entirely.

Ashmusy also disclosed that the procedure was carried out by One Wellness, a fertility and maternal health clinic she spoke highly of, describing the entire process as professional and smooth. She announced the decision publicly in April via a video on Instagram, in which she detailed the various stages of the egg-freezing process, saying she shared the journey deliberately to sensitise other women and encourage those facing similar uncertainties to consider their options.

The announcement drew widespread reactions from public figures, including fellow entertainers Juliet Ibrahim and Etinosa Idemudia, and sparked fresh conversation about fertility awareness, marriage pressure and reproductive autonomy among Nigerian women.

Speaking in a more recent podcast appearance, Ashmusy was emphatic that her decision had brought her peace rather than resignation. She said she wants to get married but no longer feels desperate, adding that with her fertility preserved, she now has the luxury of choosing right rather than choosing fast. “I want to get married, but I am not desperate. Just in case the right suitor doesn’t come, I am already safeguarded. I am already sure of being a mom by God’s grace,” she said, describing egg freezing as one of the best decisions she has ever made.
