Ekiti LG Vice Chairman Abducted Along Ipere-Iludun Road
Suspected kidnappers have abducted the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Hon. Grace Ogunleye, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday as the council official was returning to Ido-Ekiti after attending an official engagement in Ilejemeje.
The Director of Information and Civic Orientation for the local government, Falade Sunday, confirmed the development in a statement issued to journalists, saying security operatives had commenced efforts to rescue the victim.
According to the statement, Ogunleye’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned by the roadside, while her whereabouts remain unknown.
Her mobile phone was also said to be unreachable at the time the report was filed.
“She visited Ilejemeje earlier in the day for official duties and was travelling back to Ido-Ekiti when the incident happened,” the statement noted.
Falade added that relevant security agencies had been informed and were working to ensure her safe return.
The abduction comes weeks after armed men reportedly attacked worshippers in Eda Oniyo, also in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, killing a pastor and abducting several church members.
