Fadahunsi, Ogunbiyi Emerge APC Candidates in Osun State

The senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 senatorial election in Osun East.

Fadahunsi secured victory in the party’s primary election after polling 23,593 votes to defeat other aspirants, Famurewa Israel and Thomas Ogungbangbe, who scored 472 and 806 votes respectively.

The results were announced by the chairman of the Osun APC primary election committee, Mr. Bayo Ayo, in a video obtained on Tuesday.

Fadahunsi, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, was first elected into the Senate in 2019 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party and won re-election in 2023 before defecting to the APC in 2025 alongside four other PDP lawmakers.

In Osun Central Senatorial District, the incumbent senator, Olubiyi Fadeyi, lost his bid for a second term after being defeated by Adekunle Adegoke.

Adegoke polled 26,655 votes, while Fadeyi secured 13,138 votes.

Other contenders in the contest included Yomi Ogunwale, who received 2,925 votes, Akintunde Adegboye with 342 votes, and Olu Fakeye, who scored 67 votes.

Meanwhile, in Osun West Senatorial District, insurance executive Akin Ogunbiyi clinched the APC ticket with 30,568 votes.

His closest rival, Gafar Akintayo, polled 1,215 votes, while Peter Ogundeji, who had earlier withdrawn from the race, received 14 votes.

Reacting to the outcome of the exercises, the Osun chapter of the APC commended members and aspirants for conducting peaceful primaries across the state.

In a statement signed by the party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC urged candidates and their supporters to avoid inflammatory comments capable of creating division within the party.

The party also advised aggrieved aspirants to make use of constitutional channels to address complaints arising from the primaries while describing the exercise as a demonstration of sportsmanship and unity.
