Elliot Alleges Intimidation, Withdrawal of Security Ahead of APC Primaries

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has raised the alarm over alleged intimidation of his supporters and the sudden withdrawal of his security details ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Surulere Constituency I.

In a video that has gained traction online, Elliot accused some party leaders and local government officials of attempting to influence the outcome of the primaries by coercing members to back a preferred candidate.

He described the situation within the constituency as tense, alleging that loyalists are being victimised for their support. According to the lawmaker, several of his supporters have faced political pressure, with some allegedly removed from positions within the local government structure due to their allegiance to him. Elliot further claimed that his security personnel were withdrawn without explanation, raising concerns about his safety amid the escalating political climate.

“My security aides were taken away from me without any clear reason. I am left on my own at a critical time like this,” he said. The actor-turned-politician also alleged plans by unnamed individuals to mobilise outsiders to disrupt the primary election, warning that such actions could undermine the credibility of the exercise.

He, however, appealed to leaders of the All Progressives Congress to intervene and ensure that the primaries are conducted in a peaceful, transparent and credible manner.

Despite the challenges, Elliot maintained that he remains committed to the party and would accept the outcome of the election if it is free and fair. “If the process is credible and I lose, I will support whoever emerges as the candidate,” he added.

The APC primary election in Surulere is expected to be closely contested, with Elliot facing strong opposition from other aspirants within the party.

The development underscores growing internal tensions within the party as preparations intensify ahead of the polls.
