Police Nab Six ‘One-chance’ Robbers, Recover Tricycle, Fake Gun in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have smashed a notorious “one-chance” criminal syndicate, arresting six suspected armed robbers who specialized in targeting unsuspecting commuters around the Ago Palace Way axis in Okota, Lagos State.

The breakthrough was confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the police authority, the suspects were caught in the act during a strategic stop-and-search operation conducted along the busy Ago Palace Way corridor. The criminal gang was operating in a commercial tricycle bearing registration number AAA 720 QL and was actively attempting to rob citizens when police operatives flagged them down.

Realizing they had been cornered, the suspects jumped out of the moving tricycle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. However, police officers gave chase and successfully arrested all six members of the syndicate.

The police identified the arrested suspects as:

* Basiru Rilwan (23)
* Afeez Akeem (25)
* Ademola Yekeen (20)
* Sodipo Oyeyemi (27)
* Ayomide Gafar
* Fabayo Michael (28)

Operational items recovered at the scene included the abandoned commercial tricycle, a mobile phone belonging to a victim, a cutlass used to threaten passengers, and a fake gun used to intimidate commuters into surrendering their valuables.

The Lagos State Police Command noted that further investigations are currently underway to unravel the full extent of the group’s criminal operations across the state and to link them to unresolved cases of roadside robbery within the area.
