Five Dead, 10 Rescued as Search Continues in Abuja Building Collapse

At least five people have been confirmed dead and 10 others successfully rescued after a three-storey building collapsed in the Durumi 3 area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

The incident, which threw the local community into panic, triggered an immediate mobilization of emergency responders. First responders on the scene include the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the police.

Search and rescue operations are actively ongoing at the site as heavy duty equipment is being used to clear the rubble. Emergency officials are working against time to locate and extract any remaining workers or residents who are feared trapped beneath the collapsed concrete slabs.

While the exact cause of the structural failure is yet to be officially determined, preliminary observations point toward the potential use of substandard construction materials and regulatory non-compliance. Structural engineers and FCT Development Control officials are expected to launch a comprehensive investigation into the integrity of the building once the rescue phase is concluded.

Medical teams have set up an emergency triage at the scene, and the 10 rescued survivors have been rushed to nearby medical facilities in Abuja to receive urgent clinical treatment for various degrees of injuries.
