APC: Court Cases May Affect Aspirants’ Clearance in Yobe
The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee in Yobe State has said the nature of court cases involving aspirants will determine whether they will be cleared to contest in the party’s forthcoming primaries.
Chairman of the committee disclosed this during the ongoing screening exercise in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, stressing that the panel would carefully review all legal matters linked to aspirants before arriving at final decisions.
According to him, the existence of a court case does not automatically disqualify an aspirant, noting that each case would be examined on its merit, relevance, and legal implications. He explained that the screening exercise was aimed at ensuring that only credible and qualified party members emerge as candidates for future elections.
The chairman added that the committee was working strictly in line with the guidelines provided by the APC leadership and would ensure fairness, transparency, and due process throughout the exercise. The APC had earlier inaugurated screening and appeal committees for aspirants contesting various elective positions across states as preparations intensify ahead of the party primaries.
Political observers in Yobe State have continued to monitor the exercise closely amid concerns over litigations involving some party hopefuls. Analysts believe the outcome of the screening process could influence the political dynamics within the ruling party in the state.
The committee, however, assured party members that all decisions would be based on party rules and existing laws governing the electoral process.
