Two Family Members Killed in Plateau Community Midnight Attack
Two members of the same family have been killed in a midnight attack on Kogot village in Vwang (Vom) District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, in what residents described as a fresh wave of insecurity in the area.
The incident reportedly occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, when armed attackers stormed the community and killed a 78-year-old man, Ngo Shettu Badung, and his 52-year-old son, Danjuma Badung.
The victims were said to be relatives of the chairman of the Berom Youths Moulder-Association in the district.
The National Publicity Secretary of the association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Jos on Tuesday, describing the attackers as “terrorist gangs operating under the guise of Fulani militancy.”
According to him, the assailants invaded the village at night and carried out the deadly attack before escaping from the scene.
He added that the latest killings came shortly after security operatives reportedly arrested and detained eight local guards in the Vwang area at Danwal in Ganawuri chiefdom, a development residents say has heightened tension in the community.
The attack adds to the pattern of recurring violence in parts of Plateau State, where rural communities have continued to experience sporadic assaults and reprisal incidents amid ongoing security concerns.
