Shekarau Claims Kwankwaso Working for Tinubu Ahead of 2027
Former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has sparked fresh political debate after alleging that he and former presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are both working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shekarau reportedly made the statement while speaking on the growing political realignments in Kano State and ongoing speculations surrounding alliances among major northern politicians.
According to the former governor, while he openly supports Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwankwaso is allegedly backing the president indirectly despite remaining outside the APC structure.
The comment has generated reactions across the political landscape, particularly in Kano, where Kwankwaso’s political influence through the Kwankwasiyya movement remains strong.
Political observers say the development reflects increasing permutations and coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections, especially among key northern political figures seeking strategic relevance.
Recent reports have linked several opposition politicians, including Kwankwaso, to possible negotiations and alliances that could reshape the political balance in the North-West region before the next presidential election.
Although Kwankwaso has yet to officially respond to Shekarau’s claim, analysts believe the statement may further intensify political tensions and speculation over possible alignments ahead of 2027.
Kano State remains one of Nigeria’s most influential voting blocs, making the political relationship among Shekarau, Kwankwaso and the APC a major focus in the evolving national political landscape.
