Gunmen Abduct Businessman in Oyo, Injure 10-Year-Old Girl
Suspected kidnappers have abducted a businessman in Irawo, Atisbo Local Government Area of Oyo State, during an attack that also left a 10-year-old girl with gunshot injuries.
The victim, identified as Alhaji Wasiu Aleshinloye, was reportedly kidnapped on Monday night after being followed by armed men from Kraal Market in Ago-Are to his filling station and later to his residence in Irawo.
According to police authorities, the attackers stormed the businessman’s residence at gunpoint before whisking him away to an undisclosed location.
During the operation, a 10-year-old girl, Modinat Aleshinloye, sustained gunshot wounds and was immediately taken to hospital, where medical personnel treated her and removed pellets from her body.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the case was reported at the Tede Police Division around 10:20 p.m. on May 11, 2026.
He explained that preliminary investigations showed the businessman was trailed by three armed men from the market area before the abduction was carried out at his residence.
Ayanlade disclosed that police operatives recovered three expended ammunition shells and three face caps from the scene, adding that the items were undergoing ballistic and forensic examination.
He noted that tactical and intelligence-led operations were ongoing to rescue the victim safely and track down those behind the attack.
The latest abduction adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of Oyo State. Months earlier, gunmen had kidnapped a 60-year-old trader in the Monatan area of Lagelu Local Government Area while he was returning home along Alakia Road.
