Security Tightened in Akure Ahead of Shettima’s Visit for Flyover Inauguration

Security has been intensified across Akure, the Ondo State capital, ahead of the visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima for official and ceremonial engagements scheduled in the city.

The Vice President is expected to inaugurate the Onyearugbulem Flyover, a project executed under the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as part of ongoing infrastructure development efforts in the state.

He is also scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Ruben Fasoranti, in celebration of his 100th birthday.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that comprehensive security measures have been deployed to ensure a smooth and incident-free visit.

Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said in a statement that personnel and operational assets had been strategically positioned across key areas in Akure to guarantee the safety of dignitaries, residents and participants at the events.

According to him, the security arrangement includes the deployment of conventional police units, mobile police personnel, tactical response teams, and explosive ordnance disposal and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (EOD-CBRN) operatives.

Other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Amotekun Corps, were also observed providing traffic control and security support along major routes leading to Fasoranti’s residence and other event venues.

Authorities said the coordinated security presence is aimed at preventing any disruptions and ensuring a peaceful atmosphere throughout the Vice President’s engagements.

The Onyearugbulem Flyover, which Shettima is expected to commission, was initiated in July 2023 under the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as part of efforts to improve transportation infrastructure in Akure.
