Ogun Cotton Project Records Successful Harvest as Revival Efforts Gain Momentum

A cotton farming project in Ogun State has achieved a successful harvest. This development is raising hopes for the revival of Nigeria’s cotton, textile, and garment industry. Stakeholders from government and the private sector are now pushing hard to bring the sector back to life after many years of decline.

The project is located in Imobi, Ijebu East Local Government Area. It is led by House of Dorcas Integrated Services (HDI) under entrepreneur Ololade Adeneye, working with local farmers and international partners.

The harvest has attracted attention from top government officials who see it as a good example for other parts of the country.

Minister of State for Industry, John Enoh, visited the farm and described the project as a practical step towards rebuilding the cotton value chain. He praised the strong community involvement and training given to local farmers. According to experts, Nigeria loses billions of dollars every year importing textiles that could be produced locally.

Adeneye stressed the need for quality cotton production and a complete system that includes ginneries, textile mills, and garment factories. She explained that all parts of the chain must work together for the industry to succeed.

Other leaders, including the Vice Chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, called for science-based farming methods to achieve better results.

This successful harvest in Ogun State brings fresh optimism to Nigeria’s agriculture and industrial sectors. With continued support from government and private investors, the cotton industry could create jobs, reduce imports, and boost the economy.

Many are now watching to see how quickly these revival efforts will spread across the country.
