Premier League Clubs Book All Three UEFA Finals in May

English football is set for a historic month in May, with Premier League clubs having secured representation in all three of UEFA’s major club competition finals the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League in a remarkable demonstration of the Premier League’s dominance on the European stage.

Arsenal lead the charge as the jewel in English football’s continental crown this season, having qualified for the UEFA Champions League final against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain. The showpiece will take place on Saturday, May 30, at the iconic Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, kicking off at 17:00 WAT an earlier start time than in previous years, a change UEFA introduced to improve the matchday experience for fans and clubs alike.

It will be the first time Hungary has hosted the Champions League final, and the first final to feature the reigning champions since 2018.

For Arsenal, it represents a chance to end a long wait for European glory; for PSG, an opportunity to defend the title they won for the first time just last season.

A week earlier, Aston Villa will contest the UEFA Europa League final against German side SC Freiburg at Beşiktaş Park in Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday, May 20, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00 WAT. It is a momentous occasion for Villa, who are appearing in their first UEFA final since their famous European Cup triumph in 1982 over four decades ago. Their Spanish manager Unai Emery, a four-time Europa League winner himself, knows the occasion better than most, having lifted the trophy with Sevilla three times and once with Villarreal.

For Freiburg, it is uncharted territory entirely, marking their first-ever appearance in a continental final.

Completing the remarkable English treble, Crystal Palace will play in the UEFA Conference League final against Spanish side Rayo Vallecano at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany, on Wednesday, May 27. Both clubs are making their maiden appearance in a major UEFA final, having reached the continental decider in only their second-ever European campaigns.

For Palace, a club with virtually no European heritage, the occasion is nothing short of extraordinary.

The achievement means that for the first time, clubs from a single domestic league will contest all three senior UEFA club competition finals in the same season, a feat that underscores just how deeply the Premier League’s financial and footballing strength has penetrated European competition. It is a moment that will be celebrated widely across English football, even as clubs from the continent take note of how decisively the balance of power has shifted.
