OPay Partners CBN for 2026 Global Money Week Financial Literacy Programme

Fintech company, OPay has partnered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to support the Global Money Week 2026 Financial Literacy Fair held in Abuja.

The event, organised at the CBN headquarters on April 28, 2026, brought together secondary school students from across the Federal Capital Territory, including institutions such as Doveland International School, Living Fountain International School, Government Day Secondary School Wuse, and Government Science School Maitama.

Global Money Week is an international initiative aimed at improving financial literacy among young people and equipping them with skills for responsible money management in an increasingly digital economy.

Speaking at the event, Director of Consumer Protection and Financial Inclusion at the CBN, Aisha Isa-Olatinwo, described financial literacy as a key pillar of economic development, stressing its importance for individuals and the wider financial system.

The Head of Consumer Education and Evaluation Division at the CBN, Nelson Amuwa, also emphasised the need to encourage open discussions about money to help young Nigerians make informed financial decisions.

Representing OPay, Chief Compliance Officer Chukwudinma Okafor said the partnership reflects alignment with regulatory priorities on financial literacy, consumer protection and responsible use of financial services.

He added that initiatives like Global Money Week help build trust in the financial system while preparing young people for safe participation in digital finance.

Also speaking, Senior Marketing Manager at OPay, Paul Iwunwa, said early financial education is critical to building long-term financial responsibility and economic resilience among young Nigerians.

The programme featured interactive sessions where students were taught basic money management skills, savings habits and responsible financial decision-making, alongside demonstrations of digital financial tools.

Participants also engaged with OPay’s exhibition booth, where they were introduced to various digital payment solutions including transfers, bill payments, airtime purchases and merchant services.

OPay said its participation in the initiative reflects its broader commitment to financial inclusion, consumer education and responsible digital finance adoption in Nigeria.

Founded in 2018, OPay operates as a licensed financial services provider regulated by the CBN and insured by the NDIC, offering digital payment services across transfers, bills, and merchant transactions within Nigeria’s expanding fintech ecosystem.
