NDLEA, DEA Arrest Alleged Drug Baron, Amadi Simon in Switzerland

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, working in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration and European security agencies, have arrested a suspected Nigerian drug baron, Amadi Simon, in Switzerland over alleged international money laundering linked to drug trafficking.

According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the arrest followed a coordinated multi-country operation that also led to the detention of two alleged accomplices in Nigeria.

The suspects were identified as 34-year-old Jacinta Amara Ikechi, arrested in Anambra State, and 28-year-old Blessing Ngozi Amadi, arrested in Delta State.

Authorities said the arrests were carried out simultaneously on April 28, 2026, after months of intelligence gathering across multiple jurisdictions tracking suspected financial crimes and drug proceeds laundering.

Investigators alleged that the network operated an extensive financial system used to move and conceal illicit funds through shell companies, cryptocurrency platforms and multiple bank accounts across different countries.

The agency further disclosed that several luxury assets in Nigeria were linked to the suspects, including Jovi Hotel in Asaba, Jovi Hotel and Suites in Agbor, and a residential apartment in Mabushi, Abuja.

It added that financial accounts and cryptocurrency wallets allegedly connected to the syndicate had been frozen as part of ongoing investigations.

Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohamed Buba Marwa, described the operation as a significant success in the fight against transnational drug trafficking and illicit financial flows.

He said the agency would continue strengthening cooperation with international partners to prevent Nigeria from becoming a safe haven for drug cartels and money laundering networks.

Marwa also acknowledged the support of foreign partners, including the US-DEA and European security agencies, noting that intelligence sharing was critical to the success of the operation.
