Comrade Onjeh Declares Senatorial Ambition
Comrade Daniel Donald Onjeh, a former student leader and APC senatorial candidate, has opened up about his long journey in politics.
In a recent interview, he introduced himself as a determined aspirant for the Benue South Senatorial District. Onjeh, who once served as President of the National Association of Nigerian Students and the West Africa Students Union, also chaired the Governing Board of the Projects Development Institute in Enugu.
He used the platform to recount his political experiences and explain why he believes he is ready to represent his people.
Onjeh first contested for the Senate in 2015 as a senatorial candidate. He explained that the election ended in court and led to a rerun against former Senate President David Mark.
He also ran as the APC candidate in the 2023 elections. Speaking with confidence, he described his repeated attempts as part of a bigger fight to serve his constituency and correct past injustices.
The aspirant addressed concerns about the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his senatorial district. He noted that the party does not currently have a sitting senator from the area. Onjeh welcomed the use of direct primaries, saying it gives every candidate a fair chance to test their popularity. He made it clear that there would be no automatic ticket in Benue State, as all aspirants would go into the primaries to prove their strength.
Onjeh highlighted his past contests against strong opponents. He mentioned facing Senator David Mark and current Senate Minority Leader, Senator Baba Muro.
He described both as occupying strategic positions but insisted that he had defeated them in previous elections. The aspirant called on them to return what he described as his “stolen mandate.” He believes the current political climate gives him a fresh opportunity to win the seat.
Onjeh expressed gratitude to those who have supported his journey. He stressed the importance of peace and reconciliation efforts in the state.
As he prepares for the upcoming primaries, Onjeh remains focused on his goal of reclaiming the Benue South Senatorial seat under the APC platform to bring better representation to his people.
