Police Arrest Suspected Cultist Over Killings, Kidnappings in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Favour Izunna, over alleged involvement in murder and kidnapping activities in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that the suspect, also known as “Njoku,” was apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Unit in Enugwu Ukwu during a raid on a criminal hideout in Obosi.

According to the police, the operation led to the recovery of a pump-action gun, five live cartridges, a locally made Beretta pistol, and seven rounds of 7.5mm live ammunition.

Investigators allege that Izunna is a member of the Vikings Confraternity, where he reportedly operated as an executioner involved in violent activities across Obosi and surrounding areas.

Police said the arrest followed intelligence obtained from an earlier suspect detained on April 30, 2026, which led operatives to the hideout.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in multiple killings, claiming responsibility for about five deaths. He was, however, able to specifically identify three victims: Somtochukwu Alfred, Udechukwu Izuchukwu, and Izuchukwu Obi.

Authorities also said the suspect admitted participating in several kidnapping operations within the state, including cases involving victims identified as Emeka Chukwuka and Chinelo Onyeka.

The police further revealed that the suspect provided information on individuals believed to have sponsored the criminal activities.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered intensified efforts to track down other members of the group and those allegedly behind the operations.

Police said investigations are ongoing and further updates will be provided as developments unfold.
