Olubadan Calls for Community Policing to Curb Crime in Oyo State

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has called for the introduction of community policing to help reduce crime in Oyo State. The traditional ruler made the appeal during a meeting with security stakeholders and community leaders.

He believes that involving local people in security matters will make it easier to tackle crime effectively.

According to the Olubadan, community policing will allow residents to work closely with the police and other security agencies. This approach, he said, will improve intelligence gathering and quick response to criminal activities. He stressed that the current security challenges require everyone to play an active role in protecting their communities.

The traditional leader noted that Oyo State has witnessed several security issues in recent times, and a new strategy is needed to restore peace. He urged the government to support the idea of community policing and provide the necessary training and resources for local vigilantes and neighbourhood watch groups.

Many residents and stakeholders have welcomed the Olubadan’s suggestion. They believe that involving communities will make security efforts more successful and sustainable. The call has sparked discussions about how best to implement community-based security in the state.

As the conversation continues, the Olubadan’s appeal is expected to receive attention from the state government and security agencies. If adopted, community policing could become a major tool in the fight against crime in Oyo State and serve as a model for other parts of the country.
