Governor Nwifuru Reinstates Suspended Ebonyi Commissioners During Father’s Day Service

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has lifted the suspension previously imposed on some members of the State Executive Council and other top government officials. The governor announced the decision during a church service marking the 2026 Father’s Day celebration in Abakaliki.

The recall primarily affects the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Mbam, and the Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara. Both officials were suspended indefinitely in late February 2026 over alleged dereliction of duty linked to the delivery of critical public projects, including uncompleted roads.

Explaining his reasons for the recall, Governor Nwifuru stated that the decision was made to appreciate the unflinching support and loyalty shown by the state’s workforce to his administration. He noted that the move was intended to honor the workers, though he made it clear that officials from the Ministry of Lands and Survey remain suspended as their cases are still under investigation.

Nwifuru urged the reinstated officials to rededicate themselves to their duties and align strictly with his administration’s “People’s Charter of Needs” agenda. He warned public servants against complacency and emphasized the importance of discipline in public service delivery.

Additionally, the governor issued a stern warning to political appointees, cautioning them against declaring interest in elective positions without formally resigning from their current roles. He described such moves as a breach of official protocol and a sign of disrespect to the office of the governor.

The officiating priest at the service, Rev. Fr. James Nwaofoke, commended the governor for his leadership style and prayed for the continued strength and wisdom of the administration as it strives to develop the state.
