Ajaka Joins APC, Guns for Senate Seat
The standard bearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the last governorship election in Kogi State, Alhaji Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, has abandoned his party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajaka, who gave Governor Usman Ododo of the APC a tough challenge in the election, said his decision to switch parties was triggered by numerous calls and discussions with concerned citizens, particularly the stakeholders and people of Kogi East.
He said: “Over the past months, I have been deeply humbled by the overwhelming show of concern, encouragement, and trust from our people.
“I have received countless calls, hosted numerous visits, and engaged in meaningful discussions with elders, political associates, youth groups, friends, and well-meaning stakeholders across Kogi East and beyond.
“In respect of the wishes of our people, in honour of the prevailing understanding among stakeholders, and in the overriding interest of peace, unity, and collective advancement, I have decided to answer this call.
“I will, therefore, offer myself to serve as the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District.
“This decision is also firmly guided by my commitment to the stability, unity, and progress of our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).”
Ajaka added further that he remained committed to further necessary engagements with critical stakeholders for further direction.
“I look forward to deeper consultations, including with His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, as part of the ongoing process.
“As we move forward, I will continue to consult widely with our people, provide timely briefings, and ensure that every step taken reflects the collective will and best interest of Kogi East.
“Our people remain my foremost priority. I am committed to a path defined by unity, inclusion, and purposeful representation,” he said.
