Tinubu Replaces Adelabu with Tegbe as Power Minister
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, following the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu.
The nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions, according to a State House statement issued on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga.
Mr Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives on fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He is currently the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and China. The partnership also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to support economic and social development aligned with FOCAC objectives.
According to the presidency, Mr Tegbe has extensive experience in the power sector, including work on regulatory and institutional reforms involving the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The President said the nomination is expected to bolster ongoing reforms in the power sector, improve grid stability, and attract sustainable investment under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Mr Tegbe, if confirmed by the Senate, is expected to leverage his expertise to deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s electricity sector.
