FG Declares May 1 Public Holiday for Workers’ Day

The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government, congratulating workers nationwide for their contributions to national development.

The declaration was contained in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.

 

Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their dedication and hard work, noting that their efforts remain critical to the country’s growth and prosperity. He urged them to continue to uphold values such as patriotism, productivity and commitment to duty.

The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and enhancing security, while promoting an enabling environment for economic development.

He encouraged Nigerians to observe the holiday peacefully and reflect on the importance of unity, diligence and collective responsibility in nation-building.
