FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe Petitioned Over Alleged $65,000 Contract Scam

A petition has been filed against Federal Capital Territory senator, Ireti Kingibe before the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), alleging fraud and abuse of office in connection with a failed contract arrangement.

The petition, dated April 27, 2026, was submitted by lawyer Elochukwu Obi on behalf of businessman Nonso Okafor, who claims he paid $65,000—equivalent to about N118 million at the time—to secure a federal government contract that allegedly never existed.

According to the complaint, the transaction was facilitated in October 2024 by the senator’s Senior Legislative Aide, Osereme Christian Omofoma, who allegedly requested financial assistance on behalf of the lawmaker.

The aide was said to have assured the businessman that the funds would either be repaid or offset through the award of government contracts.

The petitioner claims Okafor initially declined but later raised the money through loans at high interest rates after persistent pressure. The sum of $65,000 was reportedly paid in two instalments with expectations that the contract would be delivered within weeks.

However, the petition states that no contract materialised after several months, prompting the businessman to demand a refund.

It further alleges that the senator later denied receiving the funds and became unreachable, forcing Okafor to pursue communication through the aide.

The situation reportedly escalated when the businessman threatened legal action. According to the petition, a partial refund of N50 million was eventually made in May 2025, leaving an outstanding balance of about N68 million.

The petitioner also alleged that the businessman faced threats of arrest when he continued to demand full repayment.

The filing requests that the ICPC investigate the matter, determine whether any criminal violations occurred, and facilitate recovery of the remaining funds.

There has been no official response from Senator Kingibe regarding the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
