Sanwo-Olu Praises Lagos Residents for Sanitation Day Turnout
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has commended residents of Lagos State for their participation in the reintroduced monthly sanitation exercise held on Saturday.
The state government reported widespread compliance across several areas, including Ikorodu, Badagry, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Alimoso, Ikeja and Agege, describing the turnout as encouraging.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, the governor said the level of public involvement reflected a collective commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health.
He urged residents to sustain the momentum and avoid indiscriminate waste disposal, particularly as the rainy season approaches.
According to the government, efforts are ongoing to clear drainage channels and gutters across the state in anticipation of increased rainfall, with the aim of reducing the risk of flooding.
Authorities also said the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, working with the Ministry of Information and Strategy, has intensified public awareness campaigns to discourage practices that obstruct drainage systems.
The sanitation exercise forms part of broader measures by the state government to promote environmental sustainability and improve urban living conditions.
