Senior Lawyer, Ibiwoye Joins 2027 Kwara Governorship Race on PDP Ticket
A respected Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Olasheni Ibiwoye, has officially entered the race to become the next governor of Kwara State in 2027. He is contesting under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This makes him the fourth person to declare interest in the position so far. Ibiwoye made his intention known on Saturday when he visited the PDP state secretariat in Ilorin with a group of supporters.
During the visit, Ibiwoye submitted a letter of intent titled “Securing Kwara First: A Covenant with the People.” In the letter, he outlined five main areas he plans to focus on if elected. These include improving security and peace, developing people’s skills and talents, ensuring fair growth across the state, transforming the economy, and promoting honest leadership with justice for all.
Ibiwoye said his decision comes from a strong feeling of duty to help Kwara State achieve lasting progress and share opportunities among its people. He expressed sadness that the state, often called the “State of Harmony,” has faced many security problems lately.
He promised to end the era of mourning after attacks by building a new security system that involves local communities, traditional rulers, and modern technology.
The aspirant also spoke about helping the youths of Kwara. He said they should no longer be seen as a problem but turned into an advantage through job creation, skill centres in every senatorial district, and technology hubs. He added plans to fix schools, train teachers, and introduce digital learning so that young people can compete globally.
Party leaders welcomed Ibiwoye warmly. The PDP legal adviser, Monsurat Omotoso, said his arrival is a big gain for the party. The deputy state chairperson, Wasilat Atinuke McCarthy, praised his clear vision and strong ideas. Ibiwoye thanked the party for the good reception and expressed confidence that together they can bring positive change to Kwara State.
