Nigerian Wrestler Oba Femi Stuns Brock Lesnar in WrestleMania Debut
Nigerian professional wrestler, Isaac Odugbesan, popularly known as Oba Femi, achieved a massive milestone by defeating 10-time WWE Champion Brock Lesnar during his WrestleMania 42 debut on Sunday.
The headline match, which took place on the grand stage, concluded in under five minutes with the 27-year-old Nigerian overpowering the seasoned veteran.
Following the surprising loss, Brock Lesnar left his wrestling gear in the ring, a symbolic gesture widely interpreted within the professional wrestling community as an announcement of his retirement from the sport.
The match began with a competitive exchange of strength, during which Lesnar briefly took control with several offensive maneuvers. However, Oba Femi, often referred to as “The Ruler,” quickly shifted the momentum in his favor.
Despite absorbing an F5 from Lesnar, Femi demonstrated resilience by recovering swiftly. He executed a chokeslam before finishing the contest with his signature “Fall From Grace” sit-out powerbomb to secure the pinfall victory.
Oba Femi’s career in WWE has been meteoric, having only joined the main roster three months ago. He is a former NXT Champion and a former NXT North American Champion, solidifying his reputation as a rising star within the organization.
During the WrestleMania Sunday post-show, Femi immediately made his intentions clear by sending a message to Roman Reigns, the “Original Tribal Chief.” The challenge drew a loud reaction from the crowd, as Femi hinted at a potential title pursuit later this year.
Born in Lagos, Odugbesan was a track and field athlete before transitioning to wrestling. He signed with WWE in 2021 through its NIL programme and has since achieved significant success, including winning the 2023 NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament and the 2024 Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge.
