Amaechi Accuses Jonathan, Wife of Forcing Him Out of PDP
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has alleged that he was forced out of the Peoples Democratic Party by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan.
Amaechi made the claim on Friday during an appearance on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, where he spoke about his political journey.
He alleged that the former president and his wife took control of the political structure in Rivers State, leaving him with no option but to exit the party.
The former Rivers State governor said he also experienced similar treatment in the All Progressives Congress, which he left in 2025.
Amaechi maintained that he would continue to speak out against perceived injustice, despite what he described as attempts to sideline him.
He recalled that he exited the PDP in 2013 following his suspension over alleged anti-party activities.
The politician also expressed willingness to support former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, if he emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
While acknowledging Atiku’s qualifications, Amaechi said considerations such as age and overall capacity should be taken into account.
He further rejected the idea of zoning in Nigeria’s political process, arguing that leadership should be based on competence rather than regional considerations.
