ADC Directs Newly Elected Officials to Await Formal Inauguration

The African Democratic Congress has directed its newly elected state executives and other officers to refrain from assuming office until their formal inauguration, insisting that current officeholders remain in charge.

The party said the move is aimed at preventing confusion and potential disputes during the transition period.

In a statement issued on Friday, National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, clarified that the tenure of incoming officials will only begin after the expiration of the current executives’ mandate and their formal swearing-in.

He noted that the inauguration has been scheduled for May 12, 2026, or any later date that may be officially communicated by the party.

The ADC emphasised that all existing executives remain the recognised leaders of the party until the transition process is fully concluded.

It also cautioned newly elected officials, particularly at the state level, against actions that could create parallel structures or trigger internal tension.

The party reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and discipline, stressing that the transition would be conducted strictly in line with its constitution and democratic principles.
