Police Arrest Teenager for Vandalising Signages on Third Mainland Bridge
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old boy for vandalising important road safety equipment on the Third Mainland Bridge. The suspect, Dogara John, was caught removing reflective studs that help guide drivers, especially at night and in bad weather. These small lights on the road are very important for preventing accidents on the busy bridge in Lagos.
Dogara John was arrested on April 6, 2026, at about 5:30pm by operatives from the Rapid Response Squad. He was seen tampering with the reflective studs when the police arrived.
During the arrest, officers recovered 20 of the stolen items from him. The police say he was trying to take away equipment that keeps motorists safe on one of the busiest bridges in the country.
The Lagos State Police Command has described the act as dangerous because the reflective studs play a big role in road safety. They help drivers stay on the right path and reduce the risk of crashes. Officials warned that vandalism like this endangers the lives of thousands of people who use the bridge every day.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the arrest and said the command has zero tolerance for anyone who damages public infrastructure. The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, also spoke strongly against such acts. He urged residents to report any suspicious activities around public roads and bridges.
Investigations into the matter are still ongoing. The police have appealed to the public to help protect government property and cooperate with security agencies. This arrest serves as a reminder that damaging road safety equipment is a serious offence that can put many innocent lives at risk.
