Popular Nigerian comedian, Okey Bakassi has announced a ₦5 million reward for information leading to the recovery of several mobile phones stolen during a football session.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026, at a recreational ground in Ikoyi, Lagos, where a group gathers weekly to play.
According to Bakassi, the suspect was a young man who approached the group asking to join their game. In a gesture of goodwill and kindness, the regular players allowed the stranger to participate.
However, the individual allegedly used the opportunity to monitor the players’ belongings while they were distracted by the match.
The suspect reportedly faked an injury shortly after the game began, using the excuse to move to the sidelines. While the rest of the group was preoccupied with the football match, he allegedly carted away approximately eight high-end handsets belonging to different participants before vanishing from the premises.
Bakassi noted that the stolen devices belong to several businessmen who rely heavily on their phones for their professional operations. The loss of these devices has caused significant concern, as they contain vital data and communication tools essential for their daily work and business commitments.
The comedian has officially reported the matter to the police, and an investigation into the theft is currently underway. In a video shared on social media, Bakassi issued a direct warning to the perpetrator, urging him to return the devices to the security post within 24 hours to avoid further consequences.
To expedite the recovery, Bakassi offered a ₦5 million bounty to anyone with technical tracking expertise or information that leads to the location of the devices. He encouraged individuals capable of tracking the phones to contact him directly via his social media private messages.
The veteran entertainer cautioned the general public and buyers in the second-hand electronics market to be vigilant. He advised against purchasing phones without proper verification, warning that stolen devices are often circulated at low prices following such incidents.
