An Ogun-based brick moulder, Israel Ayomide, was tragically stabbed to death by a suspected local hoodlum popularly known as “Aboy.” The fatal incident occurred in the Ori-Ade Block industry located in the Ewupe community of Ota, Ogun State.
The violence reportedly stemmed from a minor dispute over just N200. Witnesses stated that the suspect arrived at the workplace early and demanded the small sum of money from Ayomide. When Ayomide refused to hand it over, a heated verbal altercation ensued between the two young men.
During the argument, Ayomide reportedly informed the suspect that his father, the owner of the block industry, had already planned to banish him from the premises that day. This revelation further angered the suspect, leading to a physical struggle between them.
As the fight intensified, Ayomide tripped and fell to the ground. Seizing the opportunity, the suspect grabbed a glass bottle, broke it, and used it to stab the victim. Before coworkers or community members could intervene or apprehend him, the suspect fled the scene.
Ayomide was rushed to a nearby health center in a desperate attempt to save his life. However, he was tragically confirmed dead upon arrival. The local community has since been in mourning, with some residents alleging that the suspect has a history of violent behavior and previous stabbings.
The victim’s family and community leaders expressed frustration with the police response, alleging that instead of launching an immediate manhunt, officers initially detained those who went to report the crime. There were also concerns of a potential cover-up because the suspect’s mother is reportedly a retired police officer.
The Ogun State Police Command has since dismissed claims of shielding the suspect, clarifying that the mother cannot be held responsible for the actions of her adult son. Authorities confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and efforts are being intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
