APC Boasts 13 Million Members, Claims Title of Nigeria’s “Most Youthful” Party
8The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has asserted that the ruling party is currently the most youth-oriented political platform in Nigeria.
Speaking on the party’s demographic strength, Prof. Yilwatda revealed that the APC has crossed a significant milestone with over 13 million registered members nationwide. Central to this claim is the high concentration of young Nigerians within the party’s ranks.
According to the Chairman, individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 account for 50% of the total membership. This puts the number of youth members at approximately 6.5 million.
“Out of that number [13 million], those between the ages of 18 and 35 make up 50% of our members, which means we’re the most youthful party in Nigeria,” Yilwatda stated.
The announcement comes at a time when political parties in Nigeria are under increasing pressure to integrate younger voices into leadership roles. By highlighting these statistics, the APC leadership aims to pivot the party’s image toward inclusivity and long-term sustainability.
Prof. Yilwatda’s remarks suggest a strategic focus on the “youth bulge” in Nigeria’s population, signaling that the party intends to leverage this demographic energy for future electoral cycles and policy formulation.
Political analysts suggest that while the numbers are impressive, the challenge for the APC will be translating these registration figures into active participation and representation in governance.
With the youth making up half of its base, the APC now faces the task of ensuring that its internal policies and national agenda reflect the aspirations of the millions of young Nigerians who have registered under its banner.
