Tinubu Condoles Kebbi Over Bandits’ Attack, Speaker’s Death

President Bola Tinubu has formally extended his condolences to the government and people of Kebbi State following two significant tragedies: a deadly bandit attack in the Shanga Local Government Area and the passing of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the President described the events as “profound and painful.”
He specifically condemned the killing of 11 security personnel during the recent ambush, labeling the assault a “barbaric act” while praising the bravery of the fallen officers.
During the visit, the President assured the state that the Federal Government is committed to providing all necessary support to combat insecurity. He expressed deep sympathy for the families of the security operatives who lost their lives in the line of duty and for the communities affected by the ongoing violence.
Governor Nasir Idris, while receiving the delegation, noted that the slain security personnel were ambushed while responding to a distress call. He highlighted the extreme dangers faced by frontline operatives and thanked the Presidency for showing solidarity and compassion during this period of mourning.
The visit also served as a formal condolence for the death of Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman-Zuru, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly. The Governor revealed that despite the state’s best efforts to secure advanced medical treatment for him abroad, the Speaker passed away after battling an illness.
The Emir of Zuru, Sanusi Mika’ilu, also spoke during the engagement, commending the state government for its swift action in supporting the victims’ families. He noted that such support is crucial for maintaining morale and helping the community recover from the trauma of the attacks.
This high-level visit comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Kebbi State. Authorities have reiterated their pledge to intensify military and police operations in the region to curb the activities of bandits and restore lasting peace to the troubled local government areas.
