Obesere’s Wife Joins APC Race for Ibadan NorthEast/SouthEast Constituency

The contest for the Ibadan NorthEast/SouthEast Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections intensified on Tuesday following the formal declaration of Hon. (Alhaja) Sekinat Tolanikawo Adelakun-Akande under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelakun-Akande, popularly known as Eruobodo, made her intention known at St. Cyprian’s Primary School in the Oluyoro area of Ibadan, drawing a large crowd of party supporters, residents and stakeholders.

Her declaration comes a day after she held consultations with political stakeholders in Ibadan South East Local Government, signaling the start of her campaign activities.

Speaking with journalists after the event, the aspirant said her decision to run was driven by a desire to represent the interests of her constituents at the national level. She emphasised her connection to the grassroots, noting that her focus would be on ensuring effective representation and amplifying local voices in the National Assembly.

Adelakun-Akande also pledged to prioritise community development and inclusive governance if elected, assuring constituents of responsive leadership.

She referenced her political background as the daughter of the late Ibadan political figure, Busari Adelakun, stating that her upbringing played a key role in shaping her commitment to public service.

Beyond politics, the APC aspirant highlighted her involvement in humanitarian efforts through the ASTAA Foundation, which she said focuses on supporting women, widows and other vulnerable groups.

In her remarks, the Oyo State APC Woman Leader, Adekemi Opatunde, described the development as a positive step for women’s participation in politics. She called on party members and the public to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, stressing the importance of civic engagement.

The declaration event featured a festive atmosphere, with performances by Fuji musicians, including Abass Akande Obesere and Sule Adio Atawewe, who entertained attendees.
