BAT-IG Urges President Tinubu to Enforce Accountability Among Governors

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts toward ensuring accountability and performance across all tiers of governance, particularly among state governors and local government leadership.

In an open letter addressed to the President and signed by the Convener, Bamidele Atoyebi, the group expressed admiration for President Tinubu’s leadership and reform-driven agenda, while emphasising the urgent need to translate vision into measurable outcomes for Nigerians.

The letter acknowledged the President’s longstanding commitment to progressive governance, noting his track record in Lagos and his current national mandate.

However, BAT-IG stressed that the success of federal reforms is largely dependent on the effectiveness and accountability of subnational leaders who receive increased federal allocations and resources.

According to the group, “the time is ripe for the hunter to be hunted,” urging the President to deploy his political will and strategic leadership to hold governors and local government chairmen accountable for the use of public funds and delivery of democratic dividends.

BAT-IG further called for the establishment of clear performance benchmarks, recommending that underperforming officials be expeditiously sanctioned.

The group warned that failure to enforce accountability could undermine national progress and erode public trust in governance.

Highlighting the impact of poor governance on citizens, the statement pointed to issues such as insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of coordination at the grassroots level. It urged the President to ensure that leaders who fail to meet expectations face consequences, particularly in areas affecting public safety and welfare.

The group also emphasised that this period presents an opportunity for the administration to demand results-driven governance, insisting that Nigerians deserve tangible improvements that reflect the resources allocated to states and local governments.

BAT-IG concluded by reaffirming its support for the President’s vision while urging swift and decisive action to align leadership performance with national expectations.

Bamidele Atoyebi
