Osun NYSC Fixes April 22 for Orientation, Warns Against Night Journeys

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has advised prospective corps members deployed to Osun State for the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation to avoid travelling at night, citing safety concerns ahead of the exercise scheduled to begin April 22.

The Osun State Coordinator of the scheme, Ita Kubiangha, gave the warning in a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo by the NYSC spokesperson, Catherine Otemuyiwa.

Kubiangha urged incoming corps members to prioritise their safety by travelling during daylight hours and using only recognised motor parks, while also seeking support from transport unions.

He called on transport unions in the state to assist corps members by conveying them to the orientation camp at approved rates.

The three-week orientation programme is slated to run from April 22 to May 12, with the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for April 24.

According to the coordinator, travelling at night exposes corps members to avoidable risks, including road accidents and security threats. He also encouraged parents and guardians to support their wards as they begin their national service.

Kubiangha further stressed the importance of adhering strictly to safety guidelines and maintaining a high level of security awareness throughout the exercise, reaffirming the commitment of the scheme and relevant stakeholders to the welfare of all participants.
