Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that competence and loyalty to Oyo State will determine his successor in 2027.
During a media chat, he emphasized that the next leader must possess a proven track record and a genuine commitment to the state’s progress.
He clarified that the state’s long-term prosperity is more important than narrow political interests. The Governor seeks a successor capable of sustaining his administration’s major achievements in infrastructure and economic development.
Makinde also spoke against the emergence of a one-party state in Nigeria. He argued that a strong, healthy opposition is vital for ensuring government accountability and protecting democratic values.
On national politics, the Governor dismissed claims of a pact to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. He maintained that his primary focus remains strengthening the PDP and delivering on his mandate to the people of Oyo.
He highlighted his administration’s ongoing focus on agribusiness, tourism, and solid minerals. Strategic projects, like the 110km Circular Road, are being finalized to turn the state into a regional economic powerhouse.
Finally, the Governor praised the Amotekun corps for improving internal security across the state. He called for continued cooperation between government tiers to ensure a peaceful transition and lasting safety for all residents.
