Nigerian Defence Academy Announces Shooting Competition, Issues Public Safety Notice

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) has alerted residents of several communities in Kaduna State to a planned military exercise scheduled to take place on Saturday.

The activity, described as a Brigade Inter-Battalion Shooting Competition, will involve cadets of the 73 Regular Course Army.

The announcement was made on Friday through a statement released by the academy’s spokesperson, Major Reuben Kovangiya. According to the statement, the exercise will be conducted at the NDA Open Range located in Afaka.

Kovangiya emphasized that the competition is part of routine training designed to sharpen the skills of cadets.

He also called on people living in surrounding neighborhoods to stay clear of the area for the duration of the event.

He said, “NDA wishes to inform the public, especially the inhabitants of Mando, Tsamiya, Kauya and Afaka general area, that it will be conducting Cadets Brigade Inter-Battalion shooting competition for Cadets of 73 Regular Course Army.”

The academy sought to reassure members of the public that adequate precautions have been put in place to ensure that the exercise proceeds without incident.

“The NDA assures the public that all necessary safety measures have been emplaced for the successful conduct of the exercise.

“However, the public is advised to avoid trespassing in the general area throughout the period of the exercise.

“Please accept the assurances and best regards of the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Maj.-General Oluyemi Olatoye, “he said.

Residents and commuters around Afaka and neighboring communities have therefore been urged to cooperate with security directives and keep a safe distance from the shooting range until the completion of the competition.
