Fubara Reappears in Public After Foreign Trip, Attends Armed Forces Remembrance Service

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt and made his first public appearance amid renewed political uncertainty in the state.

The governor was seen on Sunday at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt, where he joined other worshippers for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day church service.

The event was also attended by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, alongside senior officials of the state government.

Fubara’s appearance comes days after fresh impeachment proceedings were initiated against him by the Rivers State House of Assembly last Thursday, marking the third attempt to remove him from office in less than three years.

Until Sunday, both the governor and his deputy had remained out of public view following the latest legislative move.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day service is held annually to honour Nigerian servicemen and women who lost their lives in defence of the country’s unity and sovereignty.

The programme featured prayers for fallen heroes and for the protection of military personnel currently serving across the nation.

Although the governor recently returned from a trip outside the country, details surrounding the visit, including its destination and purpose, were not officially disclosed.

Meanwhile, the state government has yet to issue any formal response to the allegations of gross misconduct raised by the House of Assembly, as political tension continues to simmer in the state.

There had been reports that Fubara travelled out of the country on a private jet on Thursday with plans to meet President Bola Tinubu in France amid the ongoing impeachment saga.
