Sokoto Governor Pledges Consolidation from 2025 in New Year

Sokoto Governor Pledges Consolidation from 2025 in New Year

As Sokoto State enters 2026, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has committed to building on the milestones of 2025 by placing a renewed emphasis on security, education, infrastructure, and economic growth.

In a New Year message delivered on Wednesday, the Governor characterized the coming year as a period of accelerated development guided by his administration’s nine-point Smart Innovative Agenda.

He emphasized that peace and security are the cornerstones of progress, revealing a new blueprint specifically designed to assist security agencies in the 13 local government areas most affected by banditry.

Regarding these efforts, the Governor stated, “We have already drawn up a blueprint on how to further assist security agencies in the areas of logistics, intelligence gathering and intelligence sharing.”

To support this mission, Governor Aliyu called for increased operational intensity from security forces and urged citizens to aid these efforts by providing timely information and exposing individuals who serve as criminal informants.

Beyond security, the administration’s 2026 roadmap includes the construction and rehabilitation of Islamiyya schools alongside the completion of renovations at primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.

Infrastructure also remains a priority, with the Governor promising that housing projects in Wajake, Gidan Salanke, and Sokoto New City, as well as several road networks, will be finished by the end of the second quarter.

The Governor also reaffirmed his commitment to social welfare through economic empowerment initiatives like NG-CARES and Ahmadu-CARES, while promising improvements to water supply and the healthcare sector through facility upgrades and modern equipment. In the agricultural sector, the procurement of new tractors is expected to drive a shift toward mechanized farming.

Expressing confidence in these plans, Aliyu assured, “By the grace of Almighty Allah, we will ensure the successful actualisation of all these projects in 2026.” This local push for stability coincides with recent international military action in the region, following a U.S. air strike against insurgents in the northwest.
