Peter Obi Lampoons Tinubu’s 12-Day Trip to Japan, Brazil

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has slammed President Bola Tinubu’s planned 12-day trip to Japan and Brazil, describing it as insensitive to Nigeria’s pressing security and economic issues.
Obi believes the President’s frequent foreign travels demonstrate indifference to the country’s problems.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, before proceeding to Brazil. Obi questions the necessity of this trip, given Tinubu’s recent visit to Brazil, and argues that the Japan event could have been attended in fewer days.
Obi emphasizes that Nigeria’s insecurity, economic hardship, and human suffering demand the President’s full attention. He believes Tinubu’s extended foreign trips contribute little to no tangible value to Nigeria’s challenges and urges the President to visit troubled states with the same enthusiasm he shows for traveling abroad.
Obi stresses that as the Chief Executive of a troubled nation, Tinubu must have strict work schedules and a strict traveling schedule to show that he has a country to quickly return to.
