Tinubu Appoints Abdullahi Garba Ramat as NERC Director General

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Engr. Dr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the Director General of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The appointment, announced on Wednesday, comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reposition regulatory institutions in the country’s power sector.
Engr. Ramat, who is 39 years old, is expected to lead the commission in enforcing electricity regulations, improving service delivery, and promoting transparency across the industry.
Until his appointment, Ramat served as Executive Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area in Kano State. He is also a former Managing Director of the Kano State Metropolitan Agency.
With a background in electrical engineering and public sector innovation, Ramat’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to drive reforms in Nigeria’s electricity market.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission is responsible for regulating tariffs, issuing licenses, and protecting consumer rights in the country’s electricity sector.
Ramat replaces the former head of the commission as part of a wider reshuffle aimed at enhancing regulatory performance and sector accountability.
