NAFDAC Seizes ₦1.5 Billion Worth of Banned, Expired Products at Lagos Market

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized banned and expired products valued at over ₦1.5 billion during a major enforcement operation in Lagos State.

The operation, which took place on Monday, August 5, 2025, targeted warehouses and retail outlets in a major Lagos market, where officials uncovered large quantities of expired, unregistered, and counterfeit products being sold to the public.

The seizure included banned pharmaceuticals, expired beverages, personal care items, and fake products with tampered expiration dates and no NAFDAC registration numbers.

NAFDAC’s enforcement team, accompanied by security personnel, inspected multiple shops and storage facilities, sealing off those found to be in violation of the agency’s regulations.

According to the agency, the raid is part of an ongoing nationwide campaign to safeguard public health and rid markets of unsafe products. The Director-General of NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the agency’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal and dangerous goods, stating that violators would be prosecuted.

“NAFDAC will continue to clamp down on merchants of death who endanger the lives of innocent Nigerians by selling expired and banned products,” she said.

Several individuals are currently being investigated in connection with the seized goods, and arrests are expected as the agency intensifies its regulatory actions across the country.

NAFDAC also urged Nigerians to always verify the authenticity of consumable goods before purchase, by checking for proper labeling, expiry dates, and NAFDAC registration numbers.
